Issue 5 of Décor magazine from the École des Arts Décoratifs-PSL.

Book available for pre-order. In bookstores starting January 16, 2026.

Co-published by the École des Arts Décoratifs-PSL and Éditions Dilecta, Décor magazine offers a lively and insightful perspective on the theoretical and practical issues surrounding contemporary design. Published annually, the journal explores new forms of creation across various fields, such as design, fashion, graphic arts, video, sculpture, scenography, animation, textiles, and photography. Through interviews, portfolios, theoretical or fictional texts, each issue addresses a theme that structures environments, representations, and social arrangements. This project brings together authors – specialists, students, emerging talents – from diverse theoretical fields (philosophy, art history, social sciences, etc.) as well as from literary and artistic creation.

This fifth issue of Décor, entitled "Nuances", explores contemporary relationships between colour and materiality through several thematic axes that renew the approach to these issues. The magazine first examines the material and perceptual foundations of colour, from traditional dyeing techniques to phenomena of chromatic impermanence. It then explores the black/white polarity not as an opposition, but as a territory for investigation, with contributions on architecture, local colours and colonial cartography. Digital transformations, territorial geographies and the languages of colour form the core of the publication. It pays particular attention to contemporary political dimensions – from orange as a colour of rupture to the celebration of nuance – and to practitioners’ testimonies who embody living research. This constellation of perspectives composes an unprecedented portrait of contemporary colour, intertwining aesthetic, political, and ecological concerns.
