Issue 3 of Décor magazine from the École des Arts Décoratifs-PSL.
The third issue of the annual magazine of the École des Arts Décoratifs-PSL is shaped by the complex and ambivalent notion of “Trans,” encompassing the various ways of transgressing (identity, textuality, coding, training, etc.). After a noun, "Décor" in 2021, and an adjective, "Vulgaire" in 2022, the school’s third journal takes as its theme the prefix “Trans,” explored in all its forms. While for several decades now, “trans” has been used exclusively to refer to a person whose biological sex does not correspond to their gender identity, Décor proposes to explore this subject without limiting itself to it.
Originally meaning “beyond” or “across” in Latin, “Trans” touches on the fundamental notions of identity, boundaries, and movement. It is this level of ambivalence, complexity and stratification that is at play in the prefix and is reflected in the journal's contributions. From transcoding to transtextuality, through transformation, transidentity, and transmission, “Trans” plays with forms, definitions and attempts at stabilisation, in as many entries.
