Décor n°4 : Contrefeu

The fourth edition of the annual magazine of the École des Arts Décoratifs-PSL takes as its starting point the observation of an incandescent and damaged world, unequal and inhospitable, which can only arouse concern and anger among the younger generations. Contrefeu is a title borrowed from the lexicon of urgency in response to the events of recent months, from pension reform to the devastating effects of the war in Palestine. These national and international current affairs have found an echo of solidarity in our 21st-century art school.

As a necessity for the editorial committee, the magazine adopts a critical stance, guaranteeing space for a ‘counterpoint’. It allows us to rethink the École des Arts Décoratifs by bringing together contributions from an ‘intersectional’ perspective that articulates feminist, decolonial and ecological issues. As with the other issues of Décor, there is a balance between contributions from students, teachers and staff at the École des Arts Décoratifs and external contributions. To give shape to this plurality of voices, the graphic design was entrusted to the Officeabc studio who proposed an approach in dialogue with the practical and radical scope of the contributions. The result is a hybrid object, somewhere between a newspaper, a manual, a vade-mecum, a pamphlet and a manifesto.
