Claire Vaudey
A graduate of the Beaux-Arts of Paris and Montpellier, Claire Vaudey defines herself as a painter, although her body of work is exclusively on paper, working in both gouache and tempera.
The process of constructing the images is precise, as the artist starts with sketches and then creates models using a 3D printer. She then gives lie to these small plastic theatres, which she photographs, focusing on a detail or angle. Only then does she draw, giving free rein to her inspirations, drawing us into a universe of color, shadow, light and surface. Though realistic, Claire Vaudey's drawings flirt with abstraction, losing the viewer in seemingly simple enclosed spaces but trapping them in color, in search of an homage to Édouard Vuillard, Paolo Uccello, Gilles Aillaud ou Peter Halley.
She was recently in residence at the Boghossian Foundation - Villa Empain in Brussels (2023) and at the Maeght Foundation as part of Maeght édition (2023). She recently had a solo exhibition entitled Consonances colorées (2020) at Galerie Anne-Marie et Rolland Pallade (Lyon). She has twice taken part in Novembre à Vitry, at Galerie Jean Collet (2010 and 2018), and in the Salon de Montrouge (2010). We presented her work in focus on our booth at Paréidolie (Marseille) in 2024 and Drawing Now (2026).
Claire Vaudey recently completed a residency at the Drawing Factory (Paris) and was recently invited by La Conciergerie (Paris) to create a group performance as part of the “Printemps du Dessin” festival.
