Claire Vaudey, Philomèle amoureuse 02
2024
Tempera and tempera screen printing on Arches paper
15 3/4 x 10 1/4 in.
In the series of drawings entitled Philomèle, Claire Vaudey turns her attention to Greek mythology, and more specifically to Ovid's Metamorphoses. Violated and isolated by her brother-in-law, Philomèle and her sister take revenge by making him eat her son, and, to escape his wrath, transform themselves into swallows. A way for the artist to anchor her work in contemporary concerns and evoke the liberation of women's voices in a poetic way.
