Caroline Corbasson
Caroline Corbasson (born in 1989, lives and works in Paris) has developed a practice that questions humanity’s place in the universe through scientific and collective imagination. Her work explores the ambivalence of knowledge and how discoveries transform our perception of the world and our origins. Between scientific observation of the cosmos and direct contemplation of the sky, her works convey the tension from which our representations of the world emerge. Through painting, analog photography, sculpture and film, she connects the infinitely large and the infinitely small, following the movements of stars and particles.
Her collaborations with research institutions such as the CNRS, EPFL (Switzerland), CNES, the Paranal Observatory (Chile), and the Marseille Astrophysics Laboratory feed her creations by immersing her in scientific environments, whose atmosphere she recreates in experimental works. These projects invite us to move beyond an anthropocentric vision and open up new relationships between perception, scale, space, and time.
With a BFA from Central Saint Martins (London) and an MFA from the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, she has exhibited in France and internationally, notably at the Centre Pompidou (Paris), Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art (Newcastle), Song-Won Art Center (Seoul), CRAC (Sète), Fondation Vincent van Gogh (Arles), MOCO La Panacée (Montpellier), Frac Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (Marseille), Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie (Paris), EPFL Pavilions (Lausanne), and Lee Ufan Arles.

Paris Photo 2024 : Up-close, Caroline Corbasson
Intertwining mediums as well as worlds, Caroline Corbasson is one of those artists who takes an interest in and describes reality not on the basis of social or cultural data, but of the materials and elements that make it up, right down to the most microscopic scale.
