Liste des œuvres et/ou ouvrages de l’artiste Corbasson

A graduate of the École nationale des beaux-arts in Paris and Central Saint Martins in London, Caroline Corbasson works in drawing, sculpture, photography and video. She explores the place of Human in the universe through the prism of the scientific and collective imagination associated with astrophysics and cosmology.

Oscillating between a quasi-scientific and documentary approach and a sensitive quest, her work weaves multiple connections between the infinitely large and the infinitely small. In this way, she draws our attention to the existence of entities and phenomena that are so vast or so minute in space and time that they baffle our understanding. Her collaborations with major scientific institutions (CNRS; CNES in Paris; Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Marseille; Cerro Paranal Observatory in Chile) allow her to immerse herself in the daily life of these centres of scientific study, capturing their unique atmosphere and opening up to the multiple connections between perception, scale, space and time.

With drawing as her preferred medium, Caroline Corbasson uses charcoal  to create profound cosmic moments that invite meditation. Created by reaction, the stars and cosmic phenomena that the artist studies are frozen and brought to life by the absence of matter. Her drawings come in a wide range of formats, from the small (21 x 14.8 cm) to the monumental (216 x 238 cm).

She was recently awarded the Monde Nouveaux prize, sponsored by the French Ministry of Culture, for her film Issac (2023). She has also exhibited in France and abroad at institutions such as the Centre Pompidou, Paris; the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Newcastle; the Song-Won Art Center, Seoul; the Crac, Sète; the Panacée Moco, Montpellier; the Frac Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Marseille; the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie, Paris; and the EPFL Pavilions, Lausanne. Her work was presented in the group show "Prendre le Soleil", at the Hangar Y (2024).

Caroline Corbasson was a nominee for the 2024 Drawing Now Prize.

Her work is currently on view at the Vincent van Gogh Fondation in Arles (France), in the group show "Van Gogh and the Stars", curated by Jean de Loisy and Bice Curiger, until September 8th, 2024.
