Eva
Medin
Born in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) in 1988, Eva Medin is a French artist and graduate of the Pavillon Bosio - École supérieure d'arts plastiques in Monaco and the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris. A multi-disciplinary artist embracing practices such as sculpture, drawing, installation, video and performance, Eva Medin stages parallel worlds and creates immersive landscapes giving shape to new possibilities of reality. Her images, rooted in the world of science fiction, question the political relationship we have with the future, and propose so many 'emancipatory fictions', prototypes of worlds inscribed between past and future, earth and cosmos.
As with the rest of her work, Eva Medin's drawings draw on the vocabulary of film trickery, using latex and cinefoil, as well as sculpture with foundry wax and resin. Through a subtle interplay of superimpositions and collages, she creates architectural landscapes that evoke cosmogonic images, opening up societal issues and echoing the universe of science fiction writer J.G. Ballard.
Eva Medin has been awarded the Talent Contemporain prize by the François Schneider Foundation (2022) and the Friends of the Palais de Tokyo prize (2020). More recently, she was awarded the Prix Art [ ] Collector - Entreprise 2023 for her project Paysages magnétiques, which will be the subject of a solo exhibition at the Centre Wallonie Bruxelles (Paris) next autumn.
Recently, her work was shown alongside Stefania Strouza in the exhibition 'Loin sur la terre' at the Historical Archives Museum in Hydra (Greece) as part of the sixth edition of the HYam project; in 2022, at the Palais de Tokyo (Paris) as part of a solo exhibition entitled 'Les Aubes chimériques'; at the Manifesta contemporary creation biennial (2020, Marseille), at the Chroniques digital imaginary biennial (2020, Marseille), at the 64th Salon de Montrouge (2019), at the Nuit Blanche (2019, Paris), at the Base sous-marine in Bordeaux in 2019, at the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie in 2018 (Paris) and for the Révélations Émerige scholarship in 2018 (Paris). Her work was also exhibited in Los Angeles and Taiwan in 2017.
Eva Medin is currently in a creative residency at the Sacatar Institute in Itaparica (Brazil).
Her work will soon be on show at the Centre Wallonie Bruxelles in a solo exhibition dedicated to her from 10 to 19 November 2023.
