Adopting practices such as sculpture, drawing, installation, video and performance, Eva Medin stages parallel worlds and creates immersive landscapes embodying new possibilities of reality. Her images, rooted in the world of science fiction, are “emancipatory fictions” that question our relationship with the world through the hybridization and interweaving of concepts - past and future, nature and culture, or reality and fiction.

For her first solo show at the gallery, the artist is specifically developing a series of works on paper - some ten are currently in production - in the continuity of the Le jour après la pluie series she created for her exhibition Les aubes chimériques at the Palais de Tokyo in 2022. True works in volume, with a base cut like an engraving plate, these drawings are then elaborated like collages, superimposing materials used as much for cinematographic trickery as for sculpture.

In this new series of drawings, the artist continues her research into water as a transformative and creative power, a flow that connects beings with their environment. Through the representation of these liquidities, essentially by working with gradations of color and affixing fetish-like ceramic elements to the pictorial surface, the artist attempts to depict the invisible and its animic force, inserting it into spaces that revisit architectural vocabulary and echo real-life constructions, notably that of the Botanique, a cultural center in Brussels, which will host an exhibition of Eva Medin's work in 2026. That way, she seeks to conjure up imaginary worlds, off-center from the dominant narratives of power and inspired by those she has discovered on her recent travels, to propose “landscapes that open onto societal issues” (J.G. Ballard). Eva Medin's drawings, which form the basis of her creative thinking, are thus constructed by going back and forth between real and fictional spaces, and mark the junction between her different practices.

This exhibition follows on from the artist's solo show Les Eaux Nocturnes (2023, Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles, Paris), produced as part of the Art [ ] Collector Prize. Through installation elements combining paintings and sculptures and unfolding like a diorama in the exhibition space, Eva Medin builds a polymorphous visual fable, inviting us to participate in a ritual that enables us to become aware of our place within the cosmic order.

The works presented in the exhibition are the result of the artist's research following her residency in Brazil in 2023, as part of the international Sacatar Brazil program. The realization of this exhibition in spring 2025 therefore takes on its full resonance as part of the France-Brazil season organized by the Institut Français from April to September 2025.

This exhibition is organized with the support of the Centre national des arts plastiques.
