Calder, The Impossible Accomplished

Alexander Calder is undoubtedly one of the most recognized and influential sculptors of the twentieth century. He used his innovative genius to profoundly alter the course of modern art.

During the 1970s, Alain Jouffroy often met the artist, with whom he established working relationships and friendship. In Calder, l’impossible réalisé, he mixes the story of these meetings with a funny artist and attachment to the evocation of a work simultaneously meticulous and tempted by excessiveness. Challenge to the scale of the art agreed, challenge to the natural laws of gravity or balance, magical animation of the object, color or form, the sculptures of Calder reveal as no other the grace of the material and stage “the impossible realized”.
