This installation deals with the ideal of the « American Dream », which states that everyone has the opportunity to achieve prosperity. The work consists of different types of images that develop a critical view of this ideal. It combines two facets of the American dream: the accession to property, and the creation of an invention that allows to become rich. As a whole, the project involves the transfer of product concept drawings from 300 U.S. patent files on wood from demolished or abandoned homes. Dating from the early nineteenth century, these patterns reflect the reality of inventions that ultimately have never emerged. The installation presents itself as a vast comic with fantasized heroes and as a pantheon of unsuccessful aspirations and dreams. It reveals the fears of society, the imaginary exploration of new landscapes and the expression of sincere hopes. The Shrine of the American Dream prompts reflection on the meaning and consequences of beliefs that influence the movement of millions of people.
