Barreto

Nú Barreto was born in 1966 in São Domingos, Guinea-Bissau. He lives and works in Paris (France). A graduate of the École nationale des Métiers de l'image des Gobelins (Paris), the artist has developed a multidisciplinary and committed body of work, which was quickly noticed. In 1998, he represented his country at the Universal Exhibition in Lisbon (Portugal). Since then, he has had an international career that has made him one of the major artists of contemporary African art. Nú Barreto's works are included in major institutional collections, including those of the Museo Capixaba do Negro (MUCANE) in Vitória (Brazil), the Africana Foundation in Geneva (Switzerland), the Fondation H in Paris, the Taipa House Museum in Macao (China), and the National Museum of African Art at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C. (USA). Nú Barreto is represented by Galerie Nathalie Obadia (Paris / Brussels) since 2018.
