Emmanuelle
Castellan

Emmanuelle Castellan’s, sometimes wide, abstract paintings question space and the gestures and movements of the body facing artworks. Her paintings, both evanescent and present, are characterized by an accumulation of barely visible traces (brush strokes, tears), as if they were buried under successive layers. Our gaze seems to glide on what she calls her “paintings-screens”, almost monochromatic and independent of the usual pictorial support: both ethereal and organic, her paintings without frames, on boards and walls invest very freely the exhibition space.

Emmanuelle Castella was born in 1976 in Aurillac (France). She has been living and working in Berlin since 2011.
