Arnaud Théval builds his artistic project in the social space, by elaborating devices involving people working in social institutions. After several works on the prison universe, the artist proposes this time an immersion in a hospital. Since 2017, the artist has been immersed in the Bergonié Institute, a cancer treatment centre in Bordeaux, and has built up his work through meetings with hospital staff, patients and their families, as well as through conferences and debates with doctors, philosophers, military personnel and priests, philosophers, soldiers and priests. The forms of this work are multiple, ranging from photographic situations of the protagonists of the hospital, to the writing of texts and creating performative situations involving the institution in its relationship to power, death and its own imagination.
