For her first solo exhibition at the gallery, Mathilde Lestiboudois has created a new body of work, inviting viewers to wander through metaphysical landscapes with a surrealist aspect, halfway between unease and tranquility.

Isolating architectural elements — columns, basins, etc. — from their context and placing them in worlds that seem devoid of any linear perspective, she paints them without decoration, almost obsessively, pushing her exploration of the subject to its peak and stripping it of all artifice. Mathilde Lestiboudois thus offers an abstract variation on the motif, embodying the essence of the object.

Today, basins occupy a central place in her work, first empty then filled, transforming the perception of space through the presence of water. An elusive presence, this water reveals as much as it conceals. It alters the space by playing with light and reflections, generating a subtle tension, a visual instability.
