For her first solo exhibition at the gallery, Alice Gauthier presents a new body of works, resulting from her experimentations around paper and its multiple uses.

Curation and text by Jean-Marc Dimanche

An artist of the matter, Alice Gauthier has been seducing us for several years with the grace of her softly incandescent drawings, a vision of a world that oscillates inexpressibly on the border between day and night, ready to tip over into eternity. In the midst of dreamlike, if not fictional, landscapes, the shadows of strange, flowing characters always appear, as if they want to escape the light of reality, perhaps no longer belonging. To this state of paper, which she so loves to work, has been added a longing for volume, an idea of sculpting with the very pigment she is accustomed to diluting and mixing. […]

Continuing her artistic experimentations, she delivers in this exhibition her latest research in the form of astonishing Pulp paintings, in which patterns literally become one with the material. […] From the beginnings of her work, she has never stopped being interested in the relationship between her own gesture and the support. Through this very particular approach, she believes that the pattern and the sheet of paper become one, a perfect extension if ever there was one of the realm of drawing. It was therefore particularly important for her to seize this opportunity to express the outlines of her imagination, with the natural desire to let herself be invaded, perhaps even overwhelmed, by the alchemy of this incredible impregnation and transformation of the living material.
