Born in 1990 in France, Lucile Soussan graduated from the beaux-arts de Paris in the studio of Éric Poitevin and Halilaj/Urbano. In 2024/2025, she was in residency at Casa de Velázquez (Madrid, Spain).
A self-described “hunter-gatherer of images”, Lucile Soussan uses her photographs as a starting point, which she then remodels in her drawings and engravings, blurring the boundary between memory and imaginary. Her transdisciplinary approach, halfway between art and biology, enables her to place her practice at the heart of current ecological concerns. Her Kaleidoscope series is the result of two years spent working with the scientific community on Reunion Island, where the artist became aware of the interdependence of precariously balanced ecosystems. In this series, she depicts a mysterious and little-known nature, which the precision of her strokes invites us to contemplate and respect.
Involved with scientific communities, the artist seeks to understand conservation issues on a local scale, keen to anchor her work in a tangible reality. The resulting drawings poetically “paint” a primitive ecosystem that carries with it the earth's memory.
