Rosa Maria Unda Souki was born in Venezuela in 1977, and is a graduate of the Armando Reveron Institute of Fine Arts in Caracas (Venezuela).

Her work, centered on drawing and painting, focuses on the everyday life of the home as an intimate space and the foundation of memory. She questions the permanence of spaces and objects in the face of the transience of human presence. Rosa Maria Unda Souki's drawings are thus a kind of subjective portrait of past moments, seeking to capture the emotional force of objects, in keeping with the still-life movement. Rosa Maria Unda Souki's images, the result of lengthy research sessions during her travels, give rise to numerous sketchbooks, and go beyond formal experimentation with drawing and painting. She wishes to show a construction of relationships and meanings around space and its inhabitants, beyond cultural and geographical limits, and where memory holds a central place.

The series of previously unpublished drawings are a continuation of the artist's overall practice centered on memory and intimate space, and is the result of a recent trip to Valencia and Madrid (Spain). During this trip, and because Spain is a land of exile for the Venezuelan community, the artist rediscovered her country's culinary culture, the taste of fruits, spices and dishes she hadn't had access to for years, in the bends of markets, greengrocers and Latin-American restaurants. What followed was a powerful emotional reminiscence of her childhood, which she was able to reconstruct through her memory of tastes. Through her drawings in watercolor, gouache and colored pencil on paper, the artist offers the viewer a synesthetic experience of memory (of a place, a moment, a person) through the memory of taste, offering an experience that is both personal and universal.
