Hintertürchen (“back door” in German) is a triptych satirizing society. Two groups of people are pitted against each other: the first - made up of individuals in suits - embodies hierarchy, oppression and judgment. Sometimes denouncers and conspirators, sometimes passive and indifferent, they are placed in a position of domination in all the scenes depicted. The second group, in the foreground of each panel, depicts characters in situations of fragility and doubt, victims of the situations in which they find themselves in.
Isolated, they receive neither help nor consideration, condemned to endure the treatment reserved for them. Yet one character blurs the line between the two groups: can the oppressor repent?
