ORLAN

Born 30th May 1947 in Saint-Etienne, ORLAN is a French visual artist living and working between Paris, Los Angeles and New York.

Multimedia artist (sculpture, installation, performance, photography, biotechnology) questioning the body, she is one of the best known French artists to the general public both in France and abroad, mainly due to the surgical operations that she has voluntarily undergone, making her body a place for public debate.

She had exhibited at the Palais de Tokyo and the Pompidou Center (‘Elles’, 2009) in Paris, at the Palazzo Grassi in Rome, at MOCA in New York, in Seoul and in Sao Paulo. Her most recent work is featured, until 8th March 2010, in an exhibition at the Maubuisson Abbey, Val-d’Oise, France, which is a publicly run contemporary art venue.
