Emmanuel Régent, born in Nice in 1973, lives and works between Villefranche-sur-Mer and Paris. He graduated from The Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2001. He has been drawing, painting and sculpting for the last twenty years, tearing up his watercolors, gathering pieces of shipwreck or sketching queues, seashores or crashed planes with a black felt-tip pen. His work develops a reflection on time, making slowness an instrument of resistance against the flow of instant images that characterizes our times. In 2009, Emmanuel Régent was a laureate of the Prix Découverte des Amis du Palais de Tokyo, which led to a solo exhibition there the following year. He was also exhibited at the Musée d'Art Contemporain de Nice (MAMAC) in 2012.
In 2014, he boarded the schooner Tara as part of a Fondation Agnès b’s residency, for an itinerary that took him from the Cyclades to Lebanon. In 2015, he won the public commission for the Rivesaltes Camp Memorial, and two years later was awarded the Hermès Foundation residency at the cristallerie Saint-Louis. In 2023, he was exhibited in two solo shows in Tottori and Shikano in Japan.
His work is regularly presented in galleries and institutions in France and abroad, and is part of private and public collections: Musée Voorlinden (Netherlands), MAMAC (Nice), Fonds d'Art Contemporain–Paris Collections, Museo Ettore Fico (Turin, Italy), Fonds Régional d'Art Contemporain Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (Marseille), Fondation Raja, MAC/VAL (Vitry-sur-Seine), Fonds Municipal d'Art de la Ville de Villefranche-sur-Mer, Fondazione Rivoli2 (Milan, Italy), Fondation d'entreprise Hermès (Paris).
