Since 2001, Rudolf Stingel has been covering with Celotex panels —insulating foam with a silver appearance which gives it reflective properties—walls, ceilings and floors of large empty spaces, and inviting us, implicitly, to leave traces of our presence. Within the particular and exceptional context of the exhibition, writings, graffiti, prints and other kind of degradations are permitted and even recommended. Untitled is thus both an ephemeral and constantly changing in situ monument, transformed and renewed over time by visitors who become, through this process, true collaborators of the artist. Instead of worrying about the destructive potential of the audience, Stingel seems to convert it into a positive principle of creative collaboration; reinventing, at the same time, the ideal of the artwork’s eternal presence.

This limited edition is an Inkjet print based on a detail of the original work as part of a collaboration between Éditions Dilecta and the Pinault Collection.
